Leading Worship in Life

At the Bible College where I am the Director of Worship, I have the privilege of leading a congregation of future ministers/counsellors/missionaries/Christian School teachers and those who teach them. I also have the privilege of mentoring future worship leaders. As I consider the Bride of Christ and sending these future leaders out to lead Her, I am frequently impacted by the gravity of my responsibility to lead well.

Over the next series of posts, I will share some of what I have been asking my worship leaders in recent weeks. We are on a journey...come along!

Over the next few days, please prayerfully consider the following questions:
What do you most often think about?
What do you most often talk about? (or text, blog, tweet etc.)
What would your friends/family say that you are known for?

Take some time in prayer to ask the Lord to show you what your treasure is. Be honest with yourself as you reflect on the things that consume your attention. What we spend most of our time on, what we pour ourselves into is what we worship.

As you pray, please consider Luke 12: 34

4. What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness?
5. Is that something that is a reality in your life?
.
Take some time to ask the Lord to show you what the longing of your heart is. Do you really desire to be purified? Are you open to the correction of others? Are you responsive to the conviction of the Holy Spirit, repentant and obedient? Do you hate your sin and long for holiness?

If some of these answers are “No”, I would ask you to spend some time with the Lord asking Him to be clear to you why that is so. Ask Him to give you the desire for purity and to show you the beauty of hungering and thirsting for righteousness.

As you pray, please consider Matthew 5:6

6. If worship leading has to do with pointing people to God, how are you doing that in your everyday life

In the dorm?
In your classroom?
In everyday conversation?
On social media?

My desire, first and foremost, for you all is to grow in your understanding of how real and tangible God is…that you would want to know Him intimately, want to be continually changed more into His likeness, and that you would learn to be satisfied in Him. Only then will worship leading be a reality in your life, because the joy, peace and passion for Christ will emanate from everything you do, every day.
